Survived by her children Anthony; her favorite, Joanne, LuAnn along with their spouses Pat, Russell and Jay. She also leaves behind 6 grandsons, 6 great grandchildren and a lifetime of unforgettable memories
Born and raised with a “lovely bunch of coconuts” in Rockaway Beach, NY, Sissy’s love affair with the sun and sea began early and never waned. Her final days were spent in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Scalding hot food and drink were high on her list of favorite things but not higher than her love for her cardiologist, Dr. Kazakis who she loved more than her children.
Her songs and stories of Lemon Get the Axe and the Monkey Wrapping his Tail Around the Flagpole will echo throughout the generations.
During her time at Our Lady of Perpetual Help she founded the illustrious “Lifesaver Club”, a close-knit group who became her chosen family.
She was a loving and caring mother known for her flair for bow tying and her skilled use of an iron. She also was excellent at judging those with none titling them as “Ragamuffins”!
Despite losing most of her sight and hearing in later years, Sissy’s keen ability to instantly notice a few extra pounds on her daughter’s or a haircut that didn’t quite suit them never wavered. Her sharp observations were as legendary as her tightly permed hair which she preferred in the tightest curls possible.
Sissy will be laid to rest in Queens, NY, alongside her beloved husband, Daniel O’Kane. Services will celebrate a life well-lived and a personality that was larger than life itself. Rest in peace or “whatever” Sissy Beans- you’ve certainly earned it.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sissy’s honor can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
