Frances E. Baker
Virginian Beach – Frances E. Baker, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, June 18, 2015. Frances was born on Staten Island, New York to Frank and Gerda Peters and was the oldest of their six children. Frances lived most of her life in the small community of Travis on Staten Island. She was an avid reader and loved to sew, crochet and work in her flower beds. She was devoted to her family and faithfully visited her parents where her brothers, sisters and their children gathered weekly for coffee klatches and family dinners. Frances was admired, respected and loved by all in her large family and upon the death of her mother was regarded as the matriarch of the Peters Clan. She moved with her husband to Virginia Beach in 2008 to be closer to their daughter and family.
Frances was the devoted and steadfast wife of Edward E. Baker who was her best friend for 66 years until his death in June of 2011. She was the loving mother of five children and she leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Denise Foster (George) of Virginia Beach, VA, Barbara O’Halloran Ochmann of Sun City, AZ, Leslie Bennett (Thomas) of Manasquan, NJ; two sons, Frank Baker (Karen) of Sunset Beach, NC and Edward Baker Jr. of South River, NJ. Frances was proud of her six grandchildren and their accomplishments and her seven great-grandchildren brought much joy to her final years.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, VA. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
