Chesapeake – Frank F Peterson, III, 75, passed on to smoother seas March 18, 2016.
He is survived by his daughters Maureen Barlow (Michael) and Donna Daniels (Jeffery), their mother, Barbara Peterson (Shearn), grandchildren Elizabeth Pittard (Aaron), Christopher Barlow, and Catherine and Barbara Daniels, great-grandchildren Andrew and Logan Pittard, Isaac Barlow, his loving sisters, Sunny Ford and Donna Robinson (Bill), and his bassets, Pungo and Jodi.
A Mayflower descendent, he was predeceased by parents, Frank F and Sylvia M Peterson II and sister, Lola M Bryant.
Raised in Norfolk, Frank enlisted in the Navy in 1958. After serving our country honorably for 20 years, including service on the USS America (CV 66), he retired as an Air Traffic Controller First Class (AC1) and continued his career in civil service at NAS Air OPS NORVA. He later moved to Climax Springs, MO where he started a reproduction furniture business and small sign company. He enjoyed living life in the Ozarks, remodeling his home, and spending time with his sisters and extended family before returning to VA.
Frank was a skilled and versatile craftsman whose work and ingenuity was highly regarded. He whistled beautifully, was an avid Pepsi collector, and loved gathering together around home-cooked meals. He amassed a circle of friends and family from one end of the globe to the other. It’s a “fact-a-mundo” that his laughter, positivity, and genuine good-heartedness will be sorely missed.
Fair winds and following seas, Sailor. You stand relieved of duty. Services at Horton Veteran’s Cemetery, Suffolk, VA April 15, 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to veteran’s charities.
