Fred E. Koenig passed away August 25, 2022. He was born October 29, 1924 to the late Fred and Cecelia Koenig in Philadelphia, PA. Also preceding him in death is his wife of 71 years, Nancy McCurry, whom he married on April 5, 1946. He is survived by his three children: Carol Lehman (Jake), Pat Munson (Dennis), and Ed Koenig (Mary); nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Fred worked and retired from the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC. His many interests included radio-controlled model airplanes, which he built from scratch. He and Nancy enjoyed traveling (especially cruises) and ballroom dancing. He also wrote poetry, which he loved to share by taping one on the wall by his door for others to enjoy. In his last few years he worked jigsaw puzzles in the library. He loved the outdoors and especially feeding “his” birds. His greatest pleasure was BINGO and the BINGO auction. We knew not to plan anything that would interfere with BINGO unless absolutely necessary.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff of the Waterford of Virginia Beach for their kind words and loving care.
