Gail Banahan, 85, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 28, 2024, comforted by her loved ones.
Gail was born March 12, 1939 to Franklin and Agnes Slaughter in Mineola, NY. Gail met the love her life, Thomas Banahan and were married September 6, 1958. After having 4 wonderful children, Valerie, Mary, Tommy and John, Gail returned to school and was a proud graduate of SUNY Farmingdale.
Gail grew up and lived in Queens, Island Park and North Babylon, NY until 2003 when she relocated to Virginia Beach, VA. Gail stayed active working until her passing, most recently as a cashier at Food Lion in Virginia Beach. Prior to Food Lion, Gail worked for Farm Fresh – VA, Kmart VA, Kable News – NY, Imperial News Magazine Distributor – NY, and TSS Department store – NY. Gail was known, appreciated and loved by many. Affectionately known as Ma, Mom, Grandma Hunny Bunny and Grandma Hot Wheels. Gail was a huge Elvis Presley fan, loved her tea time, loved Dragonfly’s, gardenias, animals and being around friends and family.
Gail was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Thomas Banahan, her parents, Franklin and Agnes Slaughter, her brothers Frank and Gary Slaughter, Brother and Sister-in-laws Richard and Margaret Famighetti, John and June Banahan, as well as her son-in-law Albert Reinike (husband of Valerie Reinike).
Gail cherished family above all, family wasn’t just a blood relative. Gail welcomed all who were kind. Gail is survived by her loving children, Valerie, Mary with her husband Mike, Tommy and John with his wife Carlee; her grandchildren Jeff, Anthony, Steven with his wife Melissa, Matthew, JD, Justin and great grandchild, as well as her extended Famighetti, Slaughter, Hill and Banahan families.
