Genevieve Talbert Barrett died on February 16, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on April 14, 1931, in Kennett, Missouri, to Kathryn and Clifford Talbert.
Genevieve studied music at the University of Alabama going on to work as a flight attendant for American Airlines in New York city.
She married Samuel Barrett, Jr., in 1965 and helped him run S. Ray Barrett Dry Cleaners. They traveled extensively through Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She was a lifelong supporter of the Virginia Symphony. Genevieve was an active member of the Tidewater Rose Society, dedicated member of the Elizabeth River Woman’s club and an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Pamela Sisson; step grandchildren, Sara Galloway and Barrett McGeorge; step daughter-in-law, Jan Barrett and step grandson, Morgan Barrett; her nephew, Christopher Talbert and her brothers, Hugh and Tim Talbert.
A memorial service will be held this spring in Kennett, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Larchmont United Methodist Church, 1101 Jamestown Crescent, Norfolk, VA 23508.
