We are heartbroken to inform you George passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Born on December 12, 1954, in Williamsport, PA to the late June D. (Barrett) Frey and the late H. James Frey, George spent his formative years in Watsontown, PA.
A 1972 graduate of Warrior Run High School, George married Lillian J. McCollum in March 1975. George later enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Milwaukee (AOR-2), USS Josephus Daniels (CG-27), USS Ramage (DDG-61) and the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and various land commands located upon Norfolk Naval Station and Dam Neck Annex, VA. Retiring after serving 24 years and achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, George leveraged his naval career to earn a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a master’s degree from Troy University. George pursued and valued a post-military career as a government contractor prior to fully retiring. He worked on projects that provided continued support to the US Navy and an opportunity to collaborate with several former shipmates and sailors.
George is survived by his wife, Lillian (McCollum) Frey of Moyock, NC, and recently celebrated their 49 years of marriage, son Brock Frey of Norfolk, daughter Renn (Frey) and her husband James West of Virginia Beach, grandchildren Seamus and Ashley West of Norfolk, VA, brother James Frey and Anne Marie Fagnano of Watsontown, PA, sister Tracy (Frey) and Edward Frey of Watsontown, PA, in-laws Ross and Shirley (Magargle) McCollum Sr. of Watsontown, PA, and Ross and Monica (Leighow) McCollum Jr. of White Hall, PA. He also cherished his many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Outside of his military career, George enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and friends. He was an avid runner, enjoyed driving his convertible sports car, was a long-standing member of Shakespeare Rod and Gun Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his hunting buddies, and family beach house vacations.
In keeping with George’s wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
