Over last couple years, I have attempted to locate men that I served with that, in my opinion, were great men. Men that treated you with respect and dignity no matter who you were, where you were from and no matter your rank. From my 15 years of serving in the Navy and Army, as an enlisted sailor to a commissioned officer, there are only two men that I have tried to find. George Frye was one of the two. I served with FC2/FC1 Frye aboard the USS Josephus Daniels CG-27. I was a lowly FC3 in Fox Division with George and the way he treated me and others and interacted with us on board the ship and off board, whether on liberty or working humanitarian projects in foreign countries, he was one of a kind. His style of NCO leadership should be taught in military courses. A couple years ago, I started looking for George. Unfortunately, not constantly, but sometimes once a month, once every few month, a couple times a month, etc. I could never narrow it down to the George Frye I served with. Then today, 6/10/24, I conducted my routine search for George and came across that smile. That smile that is burned into my memory like only a few things are. I've said that I know I will find him when I find his picture with him smiling. Then I know I have found him. Today, while doing my searches for George I came across that smile. FC2/FC1 Frye, thank you! Thank you for your service, thank you for your leadership, thank you for your friendship, and thank you for that smile. I'm sorry I couldn't have found it sooner. I would have love to reminisce over a beer or 2. Fair Winds and Following Seas shipmate.

George is an amazing person and one of those once in a lifetime friends. Not only was he one of the most effective naval leaders I've known, but he was also a great human being. No matter what was going on, even when others around him were upset and maybe not thinking clearly George was everyone's conscience and common sense. After George retired and left our command we had written on the whiteboard "WWGD" ("What Would George Do") because we knew following his lead we could never go wrong. Peace and blessings to George, Lillian, Brock, and all the family. Our brother will be missed beyond belief but never forgotten. Fair winds and following seas shipmate, we have the watch.

George, you have been the best father and friend we could ask for, and you made my life with Renn all that it could be, and more. We will never forget the lessons you have taught us, and we will carry your love with us forever. Fair winds, and following seas.
