Virginia Beach- George E. “Buddy” Smith, Jr., 63, passed away on December 10th after spending the day surrounded by friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father George and his eldest son Nathan. He was married to Susan Smith, the love of his life, for 29 wonderful years, who remains behind with the support of their three surviving children, Jason, Trey and Natalie, his two future daughter in laws, Alyssa and Erin, and his grandson Cameron. Surviving family also include his mother Geraldine Maples Smith, his sisters Rabiah Seminole and Staci Smith, his step-mother Judy Smith, and numerous loving cousins. The family is also happy to have the love and support of Susan’s brother Chris Olsen and his family, Susan’s mother Lynne Smith, and the most amazing friends and church family they could ever hope for.
Buddy was a lifetime resident of Virginia Beach. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1972 where he was known for missing class if the surf was good. He supported his family through a career in construction and founded their family business, GES Construction Inc. He was an amazingly loving husband and involved father who spent his time volunteering as a scout leader, was a Sunday school teacher, and was his kids’ biggest cheerleader, both on and off the field. Buddy will be remembered for sharing his love of the ocean with his family, his blunt humor and big laugh, and his fierce dedication to his family, friends and faith.
A memorial service will be held at London Bridge Baptist Church, 2460 Potters Road, Virginia Beach on Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. followed by an onsite reception. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the North American Mission Board or Surfer’s Healing of Virginia Beach.
