George Edward Grant Jr., 81, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, left us peacefully after an extended illness on March 3, surrounded by his family in his home. He was a beloved husband, father,
grandfather, and friend, George, will be remembered for his kindness and love of the Washington Redskins, Nascar racing, war history, and all things science and nature. George knew no strangers, only friends.
He was born on July 17, 1943, in East Orange, New Jersey, to the late George Edward Grant Sr and Mary Rita Grant. He was the eldest brother of his late sister, Darlene Grant White, and
brother, Wayne Grant.
Through devoted service to his country, George, proudly served 27 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1989. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from St. Leo University. In line with his hard-working nature, he also retired from a second career with the United States Postal Service in 2015.
George met the love of his life, Marianne, while stationed with the Navy in Arlington, VA. They were married on March 22, 1975, and have been married just shy of 50 years. Their union has
produced three children and seven grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife, Marianne; children, Christina (William) Trogdon, Kathleen (James) Colston, and Brian Grant; grandchildren, Jayson, Evan, Anna, Jennifer, Nate, Morgan, and Angel; and brother, Wayne Grant.
And “while you’re up,” a celebration of life will be held for friends and family on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles,1061 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach, VA. 23462. A private burial will be held at a later date with the family.
