George Fredrick Wescott

CHESAPEAKE – George Fredrick Wescott, 74, passed away October 4, 2011. He was born May 16, 1937 in Biloxi, Mississippi to the late Marjorie and Barney S. Wescott. He was preceded in death by his bother Barney S. Wescott, III. He proudly served in the United States Navy with a distinguished career in the submarine service and retired as a Senior Chief Electrician in 1975. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University in 1982 and pursued an interest in horticulture.
He leaves his wife, Jean Hunt Wescott; four children, Jordan Lane Sharon Wescott, Georgia Lyn Ronald Kineman, Jennifer Wescott Thomas Elwell and Jamison Lee Wescott; a sister, Roberta “Bunny” Wescott; and a brother, Bobby W. Wescott. George also left many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private service after the U.S. Navy scatters George’s ashes at sea. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.

George was a good shipmate and I feel saddened to hear of his passing. I was a shipmate of his on the Skate in the late 60's. I did not maintain contact after my discharge in 68 but do remember him as a good man who was considerate to others and had kind smile and a willingness to sit and talk with others like good friends would chat. I don't remember all that many of my fellow sailors from forty plus years ago but George had the character and personality that made him special and quite memorable. My condolences to his family.
