Hampton – Gladys Evelyn Rowe, 87, passed away on December, 4 2020. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 17, 1932 to Eugene Albion White and Marion Frances Brown. Preceded in death by her brother, Roger and sisters, Ellen and Louise and her husband, of 56, years Carl.
Gladys entered the Army August 12, 1953. She worked as a cryptography specialist assigned to the Pentagon. She left the service November 25, 1955 to marry and start her life with Carl. During the years that followed she raised two children, worked as a substitute teacher, earned her private pilot license, worked as a literacy tutor and worked as a social worker for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for 30 years. She was very proud of her Veteran status and celebrated Veteran’s day every year. In the later years she spent time with her friends who remember her as “a lovely lady” and a “joy to be around”.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen;, daughter-in-law, Angel and son, Steven, his wife, Lisa, and their children David, Jason and Susan.
A private memorial service will be held in the Spring 2021 in Harrison, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with their arrangements.
