Gloria Howell Probert of Norfolk went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2011 at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her husband Denton Samuel Probert and daughter Catherine Karias. She was a loving mother, sister, and a friend to many. She graduated from Maury High School in 1950. She was a retired optometric assistant, and a lifelong resident of Norfolk.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, decorating, and sewing. She also taught and sang in her church for many years. She is survived by her two devoted daughters Mara Sanders and her husband Carl of the Eastern Shore, and Gloria Smith-Charest and her husband Andre of Williamsburg, as well as her sister Joan Sloan of Suffolk. She is also remembered fondly by her five grandchildren: Mark, Erich, and Kelly Morgan, and Jenna and Rachel Smith, in addition to many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM at Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday August 13th, followed by a private interment in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cremate.org.
