Gloria Jean Butler, 75, passed on August 12, 2023, in Norfolk, VA. She was born March 15, 1948, and began courting the love of her life, Robert, in the ninth grade. They were married on June 1, 1966. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in February 1973. She enjoyed sharing her faith with others and supported theocratic arrangements. As she was a seamstress, she often made costumes for the dramas at conventions. She will be remembered for her willingness to share her husband with the congregation and others in need.
One of her favorite hobbies was shopping, especially attending cooking demo shows and she could cook. She enjoyed playing Bid Whist and was good at it! She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, had to have pictures of them, rewarded them for good grades in school, and took them shopping as well. Music was one of her biggest loves; she was eclectic and enjoyed all kinds.
She was the daughter of the late William and Narcissus (née Edmonds) Barksdale. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Rosa Mae Craddock and Lottie Massdin, and brother, Richard Barksdale.
She leaves a host of friends and loving family members to cherish her memory, including her husband, Robert L. Butler, her daughters, Natalie A. Butler and Kendra L. Morgan (née Butler) (Tyrell), her sisters, Jacqueline Pettus and Catherine Towler (Dwight), her grandchildren, Brandon L. Butler (Tamesha), Danielle Scott (Kevin), Jessica Butler as well as a host of great-grandchildren and her “twin sister,” Joyce Bagby. She is fiercely loved and will be deeply missed.
