Born on August 28, 1958, in Norfolk, VA, Gregg lived a profound life of music, love, and unwavering faith.
Preceded in death by his parents, Melvin House and June Hadley Hammer, Gregg is survived by his wife of 37 years, Laura House; his loving daughter, Miranda House Meekins (husband Brandon Meekins); his sister, Erika Rockett; his stepmother, Sharon House; and his 2 cherished grandchildren, Bennett and Jackson, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
His devoted mother, June, ensured Gregg’s childhood growing up in Ghent was marked by a nurturing and supportive upbringing. Her influence remained a cornerstone throughout his life. Gregg’s passion for music was ignited at an early age, and he continued to cultivate and hone his craft as an exceptionally skilled guitarist and pianist. He was an ardent Beatles enthusiast and loved his Kansas City Chiefs.
Gregg’s remarkable talents as a musician and, later, a skilled concert video director for the Virginia Beach Amphitheater, touched the lives of many. He not only played guitar and piano with expert prowess, but also wrote songs that resonated deeply with those who had the privilege of hearing them. As a member of many local bands throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, including Everest, Backslide, and, most notably, Paris, his musical genius left a lasting impact on his peers and fans.
In later years, Gregg embraced a profound spiritual journey, finding solace and strength in his faith. He read the Bible many times, drawing inspiration and comfort from its teachings. Gregg’s spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, living on through the music he created and the love he shared.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 18, at 12:00 PM at All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach.
