Harvey B. Harrell Sr., 89, of West Neck in Virginia Beach died Feb. 26, 2017. He was a patriotic man and lifelong conservative Republican who loved his country. He graduated from Granby High School, where he played in the first Oyster Bowl football game and attended the Univ. of Tenn. where he pursued civil engineering and ran track.
Harvey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from the Virginia National Guard.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and Master of Ruth Lodge 89 in Norfolk in 1989 and 2000.
Professionally, he worked for Talbot Architecture and Engineering for 20 years and then HDR Engineering until he retired again.
He was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church for 32 years and more recently First Presbyterian Church.
He loved the Outer Banks where he spent many happy years at the Harrell Compound in Duck.
Survivors include his wife Mary and beloved schnauzer Mili; sons Scot Harrell (Tyler) of Midlothian and Burke Harrell of Blacksburg; stepson Scott Huneycutt of Chesapeake; grandchildren Kendall Ritter (Steve), Tim Harrell (Heather), Matt Harrell (Meghan) and Kylie Huneycutt as well as four great grandchildren – twins Fletcher and Peyton, Maggie and Reagan.
