Harvey Danielson
Virginia Beach – LCDR Harvey Danielson USN Retired passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 10, 2015.
Harvey was born in White Plains, New York on June 24, 1939 to Nels and Bertha Danielson. He attended Columbia University on an NROTC scholarship, was commissioned and served his country immediately following graduation. He served his country proudly for over 20 years. During the Vietnam War, he was a “River Rat”, commanding two amphibious ships as part of the Riverine Force.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Harv worked for a defense contractor at CDSA Dam Neck. In retirement, Harv’s favorite title was Pop Pops to his 8 grandchildren. He also loved to sail the Blackwatch, take his “nature walks” with beloved dogs, play cribbage and tinker with his beloved 911.
His cherished memories will live on by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Jody Danielson, his son, Scott and Valerie Danielson and their children: Josh, Ben, Mia, Spencer, and Parker, his son , Skip and his daughter , Kate, and his daughter, Noel and Chad Dean and their children: Dillon and Austin. He is also survived by his older sister, Sylvia Shay and his younger brother, Norman and Nina Danielson. Harvey was one of the “good guys”; he loved his family, his friends, and his country.
Following cremation, LCDR Danielson will be honored by a burial at sea by the United States Navy. Family and friends will gather at the family home from 3-5pm on August 2, 2015 to celebrate his life.
