Helen Kashtan Johnson, age 82, died surrounded by her grateful and loving family.
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on May 2, 1930, she was the daughter and youngest child of Jacob Kashtan and Anna Abramovitz Kashtan. The Kashtan family moved to Mansfield in 1936 and Helen resided there until she married the love of her life, Thomas A. Johnson of Attleboro, in 1952. Helen was a 1948 graduate of Mansfield High School. While working at General Findings and Swanks in Attleboro, she was fortunate to find many a life-long friend. After moving to Virginia Beach in 1966, she worked for both Kings and Zayres retail stores in Virginia Beach, and was a proud member of the Windflower Circle of The Kings Daughters.
Helen was preceded in death by her “wonderful one” and husband of over 60 years, Thomas A. Johnson. She is survived by their sons Craig and Keith, and daughter Laurie; Craig’s wife Patricia Vatidis and their children, Meredith and Cameron, both of whom Helen adored, and numerous nieces and nephews and their wonderful children. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Gloria Joseph for her tender loving care of both Tom and Helen. A graveside service for both Tom and Helen Johnson will be held at Arlington National Cemetery this summer. A celebration of life service for both Tom and Helen will be held at 11 am Sunday, June 2, at the Magnolia Room of Atlantic Shores. Memorial donations may be made to the Make A Wish foundation or any charity that benefits children. Condolences may be offered at www.cremate.org.
