She grew up in Welcome, MD and graduated from Arch Bishop Neale School in La Plata, MD in 1950. She married John E. Ritter in 1951. Once they settled in Virginia Beach she worked at Kempsville Veterinary Hospital for 26 years. She was a parishioner of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach for the past 38 years and a dedicated volunteer with the Social Outreach Program through the church for the past 20 years.
She is survived by her loving husband John E. Ritter; her sister Barbara Grimes of La Plata, MD; brother James E. Wenk Jr of Waldorf, MD; son John E. Ritter Jr of Franklin, VA; daughter Donna Ritter Vandenbree Arthur of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Megan Leon of Independence, CA; Amy Raper of Washington, NC; James Vandenbree of Richmond, VA; and Jack Ritter of Franklin, VA, and 5 great grandchildren.
Private viewing for the family was held on Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Star of the Sea Catholic Church Social Outreach Program.
