Portsmouth – Hester Kimpel
Hester Kimpel, born November 15, 1913, died peacefully at home June 13, 2010, with her family in attendance.
Hester was born to George and Minna Dix in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales and emigrated to the U.S. in 1924. She married Holmes W. Kimpel in 1941 in their hometown of Pittsburgh, PA, where they enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage before his death in 1993.
After moving to Portsmouth in 1998 to be near family, Hester became a faithful member and dedicated volunteer at St. Johns Episcopal Church which was a great source of spiritual satisfaction and fellowship for her. Independent, active, and a lively personality, she was keenly interested in others and made friends of all ages in Portsmouth and wherever she traveled.
Hester is survived by her two daughters, Karen Naughton of Albuquerque, NM, and Christine Cross of Portsmouth, her grandchildren Keith Naughton and Eric Naughton fiancé Leyla Er-Selcuk of Los Angeles and Katharine Cross fiancé Andrew Rust of Portsmouth, her son-in-law Mike Cross, Karens partner Bonnie Rudy, and many, many friends.
The family is grateful for all the support shown to them and to Hester by members of St. Johns, the staff and her friends at Harbor Tower, and especially to Sue, Donna, and Mary Alice. Hester blessed all their lives as they blessed hers.
