Howard “Bruce” Brewster Jr., 81, was born on July 4th and loved that everyone celebrated his birthday! He is now riding his lawnmower in the sky with a Coors Light in his hand. He passed away on January 10, 2023.
He was born in Providence, RI and grew up in Barrington. Bruce’s first playground was Narragansett Bay, racing any boat he could get his hands on. When those weren’t enough, he joined the Navy and put his navigation skills to good use as a quartermaster. After the Navy, he graduated from college and became an accountant and mobile bookkeeper. He lived in Warwick for much of his adult life, but “retired” to Virginia Beach in 2004 to enjoy longer summers and a lot less snow in the winters. This is when he was able to purchase his beloved John Deere and maintained his lawn with military precision. His other favorite pastime was watching the boats travel up and down the North Landing River, and for many years he had a ringside seat for that action.
He was married for 50 wonderful years to his wife, Jan. She passed away in May 2021, and the family is glad they are reunited.
Bruce is survived by a son and a daughter, their spouses, five grandchildren, and Wonder Dog, Molly. He also leaves behind a sister, brother, two brothers-in-law, three nieces and two nephews, and their extended families.
The family would like to thank Nurse Kelli for her guidance, love, and humor as they navigated this journey with dad. She kept him smiling until the end. The family would also like to thank Marita and Dazani from Hospice for all the care they took with dad. Their kindness and compassion made dad so much more comfortable.
