Hugh Tipton Johnson passed on June 15, 2018. He was born to Robert and Stella Jo Johnson on August 20, 1935. He had one brother, Bill who preceded him in death. He attended East Tennessee State University and was a member of the Air National Guard and the Masonic Order. He was previously married to Pat D. Cowan and they had two children, Reed Tipton Johnson (Julye) of Williamsburg, VA and Jennifer Lea LaDow of Marriottsville, Maryland. He leaves four grandchildren, Ashley LaDow, James LaDow, Abigail Johnson and Jacob Johnson. During his life he retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries, a professional ski instructor and competed in professional ski racing. Tip worked in other furniture related businesses for many years. He loved to fly, with thousands of logged hours in many aircraft and danced the shag. He will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 30th at 11am, at Morgans Baptist Church, 2086 Morgans Church Road, Bedford VA, 24523. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the church for it’s charitable missions.

Johnson Family, I still miss Tipton after several years. He was quite a character and he never ran out of good stories, humorous conversations and jokes. He was a fixture here at the Bedford and Moneta libraries. He would come by almost daily to go online, read the paper and periodically have his blood pressure checked here at the library. I still make note of his existence here at the library to my co-workers and share his stories. I sure do miss my friend. I wish I could have offered a farewell, but such is life. He was like an uncle to me.

Reed and Jennifer, I so sorry to hear about your dad...thought of him fondly over the years.

Tip was a good friend and a regular with the Morgans Church lunch crowd that meets every Sunday at our local Boajangle for lunch and fellowship. He will be greatly missed by us all.
