Norfolk ~ Irene M. Maness, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 10, 2021 in her home in Norfolk, Virginia. Irene was born on January 31, 1945 in Waterbury, Connecticut eventually relocating to Norfolk, Virginia where she lived her entire adult life.
Irene is preceded in death by her daughter Laura K. Maness, her grandson Andrew “Talon” Paulk and parents Robert E. and Rachel C. Scouse. We take comfort in knowing she will be reunited with them in Heaven surrounded by God’s love.
She is survived by her children Melinda Wiedenhoeft (Wayne), Kimberly Gambardella (Chris), Michele Maness, Debra McKenzie and David Maness Jr. and her grandchildren, Tina Bradshaw, Jennifer Dumlao, Bryan Wooldridge, Ashley Capps (Shane), Joshua McKenzie, Samantha McKenzie and Justin Pruitt as well as numerous great grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Carol Gillette, Paula Reynolds, Bonnie Shaffner (Larry), Robert H. Scouse (Robyn) and Nancy Scouse Currence (Brandon).
Irene was a beautiful, loving and selfless mother, grandmother (Nanny), sister and friend who made many sacrifices for the people she loved. She spent her life devoted to her family. Her dedication in caring for so many made her a great example of a strong woman and the much loved matriarch of our family. Irene loved to laugh and we will forever miss her dry and sarcastic sense of humor. She had a passionate love for animals. Even the neighborhood strays knew they could visit her for a good meal. Irene was a wonderful cook who enjoyed feeding her loved ones. It was her “love language” and we were very lucky and always excited to eat her delicious meals. She will be eternally missed and we will not say goodbye, but rather see you later.
Irene’s wish was not for a formal service, but rather a celebration of her life. We will honor this with a drop in visitation between 12:00-3:00 on May 22, 2021 at the home of Chris and Kim Gambardella located at 4924 Locke Lane in Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
