He is survived by sons Jeffrey & wife Brenda, and Marc Schwartz.
Jack graduated from Maury H.S. in 1950. He attended Norfolk Division, college of William & Mary from 1950-1951. He enlisted into the Naval Air Reserve in 1950. Employed by the Norfolk Naval Aviation Depot as a Personnel Labor Relations Spec. for 43 years. He was deployed for active duty in the Naval Air Reserve several times, serving aboard the USS Leyte (CV-32) in 1952, the USS Saipan (CVL-48) in 1960, the USS Cabet (CVL-28) in 1972 and the USS Wasp (CVS-18) in 1974. In 1976 he became a Plankowner in Attack Helicopter Squadron HAL-4 (The “Red Wolves”) and was assigned as a team to establish the first Naval Air Reserve Light Attack Helicopter Squadron. He was deployed for exercises “Gallant Eagle”, “Bold Eagle”, “Pearl River” and several NATO exercises in Northern Europe. He retired in 1999 with the very proud squadron record of 21,868 accident free flying in the HH-K and over 2,000 hours with zero free mishaps with the HCS-4.
Jack was a member of the Branch 5 Fleet Reserve Assoc. Norfolk Sports Club, Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Veterans Affairs and the South Bayview Civic League.
A special thanks to Kristy Ringenbach, who was Jack’s caregiver for the past year. She has become a part of the family. Also thanks to Hospice, and all of the people who helped take care of him for the past year.
A celebration of his life will be held Sat, June 24, 2017 1:00-4:00pm at Mom & Pops Restaurant, 331 E. Bayview Blvd, Norfolk 23503. Burial with full military honors will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby St, Norfolk 23505 on Wed, June 28, 2017 11:00am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
