Suffolk, VA – James D. Breckenridge was born on October 29, 1945 in Ft. Madison, Iowa to the late Evelyn Bishop and Harold Breckenridge.
The youngest of three boys, he was the only one born in a hospital. Jim was raised in Keosauqua, Iowa along with his brothers, Dick and Max. He graduated from Van Buren County High School in 1964 and then graduated from Northeast Missouri State College (Truman University) in 1968 with a BS in Education. After serving four years in the Navy, he used the GI bill and completed his M. Ed in Education at Old Dominion College in 1973. He then began his 34-year career with the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. He taught at Virginia Beach Junior High School, then was a guidance counselor at Kempsville Junior High School before serving his last 20 years as the Director of Guidance at Princess Anne High School. Jim married his wife, Eleanor W. Breckenridge (Bebe) on August 28, 1976.
Besides his loving wife, Bebe, Jim is survived by two children, Hope K. Breckenridge of Cape Coral, FL and James W. Breckenridge (Cat) of Carrollton, VA; three grandchildren, Nathan, Reid and Jack; brothers, Max Breckenridge (Midge) of Cape Coral, FL and Dr. Richard Breckenridge (Gloria) of Keosauqua, IA. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, Robert Breckenridge (Laura) of Cape Coral, FL, Tom Breckenridge (Nicki) of LaBelle, FL, Bill Breckenridge of Cape Coral, FL, Dr. Eric Breckenridge of West Bend, WI, Amy Breckenridge (Eric), Heidi Scott (Chad) of Keosauqua, IA, Stephanie Woodruff of Austin, TX and Katherine Woodruff of Henrico, VA. There are numerous great nieces and great nephews surviving.
Jim loved his family, friends, telling jokes, golf, fishing, playing cards, traveling, parties and the Outer Banks of NC. He and Bebe moved to Suffolk, VA in 2020 and were members of Ebenezer UMC in Eclipse, VA.
