James F. Brown, III, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 in Norfolk, Virginia. Jim was born October 29, 1942 in Joliet, Illinois to James and Jessica Brown. He graduated from Rich East High School in Park Forest, Illinois and Chicago Technical College. Jim spent his working life as a civil engineer. He served several years as the president of the American Society of Heating and Refrigeration Engineers (ASHRAE).
Jim was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Sheila Pierce and Jessica Cummins. He leaves behind his loving wife Judy, his two daughters Lisa and Lauren (Jon), his nieces Caryn Cuadra, Cathy Vivas, and Sarah Cummins, his nephew Charles Cummins, his sister-in-law Diane Roche, and numerous cousins and dear friends.
Jim was passionate about many things. First and foremost his family (including Quincy, his trusted companion and spoiled rotten Aussiedoodle). He loved sailing/boating, all 4 legged creatures, all things Porsche, Formula 1 racing, travel to Europe with friends and family, fine dining, wine, a good Scotch, reading, history, and dad jokes. After retirement, Jim became a Master Gardener, and volunteered for Lee’s Friends and the Norfolk Animal Care Center. He will be remembered by many for his kindness to others, his acerbic wit and welcoming smile.
