James Irvin Goodman, born on January 6, 1950, in New Orleans, LA, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 74.
James was a man of unwavering faith and love for the Lord. He found solace in praying for others and attending church. James was a devoted disciple under the late Bishop Darrell Scott, Sr. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, now known as Tabernacle Worship Center. His gentle spirit and kind heart touched the lives of many.
James attended a day program where he found joy in creating bracelets with beads and pipe cleaners. He considered bracelet crafting as his job and was proud of his achievements. In his free time, James indulging in his love for food, snacking, and money. He always carried a bit of cash in his pocket, reflecting his appreciation for the finer things in life. He delighted in watching westerns, with Andy Griffin being his favorite, and danced and sang along to the tunes of James Brown. James called his Group Home his sanctuary, where he thrived in the company of the director, caregivers, and his friends. He cherished the companionship and care he received, creating lasting memories with those around him.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Goodman and brother, Junior Goodman Carlin. He is survived by his siblings: Ellen Goodman Bouton, David Goodman, and Ira Goodman. He will be fondly remembered by Danyell Bouton (Ryan) Seaman, Corey Bouton, Corey Kennedy, Jr., Irma Goodman Walker, Valerie B. Johnson, Alene Goodman Collins, Emma Goodman Black, Shirly Cormier Goodman, Cortney Bouton, Corren Bouton, Amari Kennedy, Raymond (Joana) Geary, Lewis Walker, Doris Harris, Lionel Singleton, Shatia Jones, Serita Moses, Shannon (Taurus) White, Elisha, Yolanda, Tiffany, The Thoroughgood family, The Up Center, the staff at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital, and all the great friends he made along the way.
Although James has left this earthly realm, his spirit and the love he shared will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace in the embrace of the Lord, surrounded by eternal love and grace.
