"Hi everyone. I'm Karin, Debra's sister, and Jim's sister-in-law. I remember Jim from long before he and Debra were married. He would show up in his car that we all called the 'Purple People Eater.' Jim insisted it was royal blue because he had painted it himself, but it sure looked purple to me. That was Jim—always ready with a smile and a good sense of humor. One of my favorite memories happened when I was a kid. It was Halloween, and there was a knock at the door. When I opened it, there stood Darth Vader. Jim had the costume, the mask, and even the breathing sound. He scared me half to death, but it became one of those memories that stayed with me forever. I have so many childhood memories that include Jim. There were the holiday gatherings, the gag gifts that seemed to get passed back and forth year after year, and all the laughter that came with them. As adults, there were times I would call to talk to Debra and find out she wasn't home. Instead, Jim and I would end up talking. We'd chat about our gardens, what was going on in our lives, and just everyday things. Those conversations meant a lot to me, and I will miss them very much. More than anything, I remember how much Jim loved his family. He loved my sister, and he loved his children. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. He touched the lives of so many people, and his absence will be deeply felt. Jim will truly be missed, but I will always be grateful for the memories, the laughter, and the years we shared. Rest in peace, Jim."

Im carlin, Jim was my uncle who was a truly special person whose kindness, strength, and sense of humor touched everyone who knew him. He always had time to listen, offer advice, or share a story that could make anyone smile. The memories I have of him will stay with me forever, and I am grateful for the love and support he gave throughout his life. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he impacted. He is deeply missed and will always hold a special place in my heart."

I cannot express how sorry we are at the passing of Jim. Jim and his family have worked tirelessly to help so many families and so many needy dogs throughout the years. Sadly, I never had the honor of meeting Jim and Deb in person, but felt like a close friend with a mutual calling in helping all these dogs. I will never forget one of the most challenging projects we had together when Jim, Deb and another rescuer went to a home to save pets that were abandoned by a man who was on suicide watch at a local Veterans' Hospital. Deb and Jim not only pulled the dogs, but visited that man at the hospital to get his house keys and got instructions on the care of the pets etc. That is just one example of their devotion in helping their community and folks in need. Deb and Jim have always been there when needed, even donating to the cause, all the while Jim was quite ill. Jim and Deb will always be heroes in my eyes and in my heart. We are so very sorry for Deb and Jim's family and their loss.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Emcomm Direct Messaging Steering Committee left a message on May 7, 2026:
Word comes to us that our friend Jim Arab - KV4JM has become a Silent Key. This is indeed a very sad day for all of us at Emcomm Direct Messaging. Jim was an avid member and this is a huge loss to us all. We remember KV4JM as one of our frequent volunteer NCSs for many exercises. When he wasn’t an NCS, he was always participating as a Field Station. In fact, Jim participated in some 22 exercise days up until he became ill in December of 2025, missing only one day! In addition to exercise participation, Jim actively provided feedback, suggestions, and other input into our organization and many matters. With that in mind, he was asked to join our Steering Committee over two years ago. Unfortunately for all of us, he felt he could not take on that assignment with all he had going on. Still, his unwavering support never stopped. Jim, we salute you for your dedication to EDM and for all of your other endeavors in life. The Steering Committee extends our sincere condolences to Jim’s family, friends, and associates. Amateur Radio operator KV4JM, rest in Peace. EDM Steering Committee
