James “Jim” Paul Arab of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on May 3, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on May 22, 1956, in California. With his loved ones by his side, Jim departed this world without fear.
Jim lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his country, and his faith in the Lord. He was a man of quiet strength, a steady protector, and a humble example of what it means to walk in faith. To those who knew him, he was a source of unwavering support, kindness, and warmth. He was also known for his sense of humor, always ready with a joke or a smile that could lighten any moment. His door was always open, and his presence brought comfort and reassurance to family, friends, and neighbors alike.
A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Jim shared 46 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Debbie. Together, they built a life centered on love, service, and compassion—including many years rescuing and caring for Saint Bernards, a reflection of their generous hearts.
Jim dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to Raytheon, where he excelled as both a software and hardware engineer. His strong work ethic and commitment were evident in everything he did, but he was most proud of the life he built with his family and the relationships he nurtured throughout his life.
He was deeply involved in his community and his faith. A proud member of the Masonic fraternity, Jim was a Past Master of Ruth Lodge and a member of Norview Lodge. He was also a member of the Royal Arch and Knights Templar. His leadership, fellowship, and dedication to his brothers left a lasting impact. In addition, Jim served as a Board Member of the Virginia Beach Ham Radio Club, where he shared his passion for communication and technology.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and Samuel Arab; his brother, Rev. Sam Arab, Jr.; and his sister, Barbara Burchfield.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Arab; his children, Justin Arab, Ryan Arab (Jessie), Amanda Arab (George), and Brandy Chadwick (David); his sisters, Dorothy Smerz (Russ) and Mary Mangan; his mother-in-law, Guyla Ivers; his sister-in-law, Karin Garner (Larry); his close friend, Stan Rainey, who was like a brother to him; and David Dendulk (Angela), a cherished family friend who was considered part of the family. He will also be dearly missed by many extended relatives, friends, and coworkers whose lives he touched.
A celebration of Jim’s life is being planned, and details will be shared when available.
