James Knox Brookshire, Jr. passed away on June 13, 2018. He was born in Athens, GA on April 6, 1941 to James K. and Leclare Hardman Brookshire. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Brown Brookshire of 55 years; a son, James K. Brookshire III and wife Sandi; a daughter Denise Brookshire Mitchell and husband Greg; three grandchildren, Julia Mitchell, Colby Brookshire and Tyler Mitchell and two step grandchildren, Wayne and Casey Smith; two brothers, Jerry and Jon and their families; brother-in-law Mahlon Marr.
Jim was a loving husband and father and dedicated his life to his family, church and community. People that knew him always enjoyed his warmth and sense of humor. Jim made everyone feel welcomed and appreciated and brought much happiness to all around him.
He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering and was a professional registered engineer.
Jim was president of the International Bridge Tunnel and Turnpike Association; president of the Virginia Travel Council; and served on the board of directors of the Va State Chamber of Commerce, Meals on Wheels, Eastern Shore Tourism Commission and other organizations. He was also very active in the Methodist Church and Ruritans.
He spent 42 years in the transportation industry with the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, Richmond Metropolitan Authority and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel District. He was Executive Director of CBBT for 22 years.
Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 19th at 1 PM at Community UMC, 1072 Old Kempsville Rd. VB, VA 23464. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made to CUMC Endowment Fund, 1072 Old Kempsville Rd.
