James "Jim" L. McConnell Jr.

January 19, 1961 - October 1, 2022

James (Jim) L. McConnell, Jr, 61, passed away on October 1,2022. He was born in Newport News, VA to James and Judith McConnell, who preceded him in death. Jim was a loyal employee with York County’s Vehicle Maintenance department for 21 years. He loved working on police cars, fire trucks, medics and anything else that came into the shop. Jim also loved to bowl, fish and spending time with his grandsons, Robert and Noah. Most of all, he loved spending time and traveling with his wife, of almost 44 years, Sandy.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandy; daughter, Bridget and her husband, Lawrence; son, Chris and his wife, Erica; sister, Temple and her husband; Kevin; grandchildren, Robert and Noah; his best friends, Jeff Creak, Barbara Markot and Doug Deach; niece, Karen and other numerous nieces and nephews.

No memorial service is planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the ASPCA or a humane society of your choice.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News is assisting the family with arrangements.

My love and prayers to your family in the loss of Jim!

I only worked with Jim for a few years but he was a kind soul that never hesitated to help. I knew if I needed assistance with something at the shop, he would be the man to ask. I'll never forget the day he gave me a hard time about driving the cars around for service, he talked me into driving the vactor, it was an experience I will never forget! Thank you for the memories Jim and my prayers will be with you and your family.

Working with Jim for 21 years, He definitely became family. Jim was a great friend and I believe that we worked well together. He was always someone you could rely on. Losing a member of your work family is sometimes as hard as losing and actual family member. This is certainly the case here. He will be missed!

We love you so much Jim and Sandy. Jim will always hold a special place in my heart. He never missed the girls birthday parties and when i was pregnant with all 3 of my girls he made sure to make them each something to have when they were born. I will cherish every memory i have with him. And y’all will always be apart of our family. I love you ❤️
