James Richard Redmond, born on September 8, 1966, in Washington, NC, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 59. His life was a testament to joy, love, and unyielding spirit, inspiring all who knew him.
Despite facing challenges due to Down’s Syndrome, James embraced life with a heart full of adventure and humor. He lit up every room with his infectious laughter and zest for life. From a young age, James displayed a fearless spirit; his mother fondly recalled the time he had his bicycle taken away for leaving the neighborhood, a testament to his adventurous nature.
James found joy in participating in the Special Olympics, where he celebrated his abilities and shared camaraderie with fellow athletes. A devoted fan of The Beatles, one of his most cherished memories was visiting Liverpool to explore the Beatles Museum, an experience that filled him with immense happiness.
In Virginia Beach, where he resided since the age of six, James spent much of his time volunteering at Eggleston, offering support and companionship to individuals with disabilities. His kindness and empathy made a significant impact on everyone he met, reminding us all of the power of compassion and community.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Redmond. He is survived by his loving parents, Elaine Madison, his devoted sister, Corinna Hanauer, James Madison, and his beloved nephews, Gabriel and Nathan Escalet. They, along with countless friends and others touched by his life, will forever hold him in their hearts.
The family has chosen to hold private services to honor James’s life. They invite those who wish to express their condolences to do so through the Cremation Society of Virginia website.
Though James’s time on Earth was not long, his legacy of love, laughter, and courage will continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
