Newport News – James Winfield Austin, 63, passed away October 15, 2022. He was born in Newport on October 16, 1958 to the late Wilbur and Olga S. Austin. He loved spending time in his workshop making many items with wood. He also loved his fish pond and turtles.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Wilbur and Olga Austin; sister, Charlotte Howard; brother, David Austin and son, Larry Proctor.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 42 years, Linda M. Austin; two sons, Edward Proctor and Joe Proctor (Wanda); daughter, Kerrie “Sissy” Hayes (Michelle); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Diane Linger (Andy); two brothers, Thomas and Wilbur; four nieces and 3 nephews. He also leaves behind his two faithful dogs, Herk and Mellie and his goat, Bucky. He will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Peggy Halifax and Gary and Wanda Slusher.

A Memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Hampton Roads Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3400 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23661.

Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
