Jane A. Moje, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in Virginia Beach, surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born on May 12, 1930, to Gerald and Grace Smith McInerney in New Jersey.
She was raised in Palisades Park, NJ, the oldest of her two sisters. Jane met her loving husband, Bob, as both attended Leonia High School where they shared a mutual friendship group that remained connected for decades. They were married in 1951 and were devoted to each other for 71 years. Jane and Bob raised their family in Bergenfield, NJ, and she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Better Business Bureau of Bergen, Passaic and Rockland Counties until her retirement. They moved to Chesapeake, Virginia in 1993, and Jane spent years volunteering at Chesapeake General Hospital and was also active in the Chesapeake Newcomers Club. Ultimately, she and Bob moved to the Atlantic Shores Retirement Community in Virginia Beach in 2011. As a couple, they enjoyed a full, active life and formed many lasting friendships through the years. Jane was never one to stay idle, and served on many committees and volunteered wherever she could during her years at Atlantic Shores. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, baking and stopping to talk to anyone she met. Her greatest joy was being ever present in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2023. She was tiny in stature, but her heart and love for her family was huge. She is survived by her three children, Kathie Maugeri (and Michael), Bob Moje (and Marie), Laurie Eaton (and Bill Butler), along with seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Beyond her family, she was lovingly known as “Nana” to many.
Her family will gather privately to celebrate her life, but her wish for all would be to hug your loved ones a little tighter every chance you get.
