Janet Evonne Knapp, aged 86, daughter of Ruthella (Cook) Trego passed away peacefully at her home on April 17, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on September 15, 1938, in Circleville, OH, Janet lived a rich and fulfilling life surrounded by her loved ones.
Janet dedicated many years of her professional life as a Secretary in Civil Service at the Fleet Chaplain’s Office demonstrating commitment and diligence in her work. Outside of her career, she was known for her love of cooking, baking, and shopping—a triad of interests that brought joy to her family and friends.
A devoted and loving wife, Janet cherished every moment spent with her husband, James Knapp, to whom she was married for an inspiring 68 years. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she found immense happiness in their presence.
Janet was a faithful member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where she nurtured her spiritual life and community ties.
She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Timothy Lyle Knapp. Janet’s legacy lives on through her surviving family: her devoted husband of 68 years, James Knapp; her children, Jimmy Knapp (Shelley), Chris Knapp (Kim), Valerie Paschang, and Stacey Will; her grandchildren, Joshua Knapp (Julie), Seth Knapp (Amanda), Samantha Paschang Cassell (Steven), and Olivia Will; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Lyla Jo, Fisher Lee, Eli Paul, Crew Michael, Ella Grace, and James Edward and lastly her beloved dogs Maggie and Molly.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Hevenly Helpers—Mo, TT, Alicia, Rose, and Parker—as well as the dedicated staff at Atlantic Shores Seaside, & PT/OT Staff, Sentara Princess Anne Staff, and the supportive network of neighbors and friends, especially Theresa Bliss.
Services to honor Janet’s life are set for 11am, Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. She will be interred alongside her husband, Jim, at AG Horton Memorial Veterans Gardens at a later date, resting together forever in peace.
Janet Evonne Knapp will be remembered for her unwavering love, warmth, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who knew her.
