Janet S. Martin, 78, peacefully departed the morning of December 23, 2024. Janet was born October 16, 1946, to James P. Smith and Alice D. Manning in Norfolk, Virginia and lived in Virginia Beach for most of her life. She was a remarkable wife, mother, Nana, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around her. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She met the love of her life, Robert “Butch” Martin, in 1960 and they were married on November 18, 1966. For 58 years they enjoyed many adventures while traveling and camping with friends and family. Her family was her heart and soul. She also enjoyed collecting seals, gardening, and watching NASCAR – Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Butch; son, Brian Martin (Shannon); daughter, Tammy Stevenson (Monte); grandchildren: Trey, Conner, and Gavin Stevenson and Alexis and Natalee Martin; brother, Michael Manning (Dee Dee); brother-in-law, Michael Martin (Linda); cousin, Al Parker (Billie); and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Kim Manning.

The family will receive friends for a celebration of Janet’s life at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Altmeyer Funeral Home located at 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude by clicking here.
