Continue ReadingChesapeake, VA – Jean Marie Gillette, born on July 6, 1939, in Long Branch, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Chesapeake, Virginia, at the age of 86. A woman of faith, she was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John D. Blair and Gladys Pearce Blair. She is survived by her husband, Almon H. Gillette, her daughter, Deborah Hughes, and son-in-law, Frank. She, aka “Nanna” was especially proud of her grandchildren, Alex Thomas and Conner Thomas. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on June 14, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 1072 Old Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23464. It will be streamed live from cumcvb.org. In lieu of flowers, please give to the Rev. John D. Blair Scholarship, c/o First Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Rd., Oakhurst, NJ 07755. Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family. Friends and family are invited to share online condolences and memories at www.vacremationsociety.com.

My sincere sympathy to the family. Jean was a devoted member of the CUMC Fellowship Class when I joined. She was a devoted Christian and a wonderful person who I looked forward to seeing each Sunday morning. I was devastated when she became ill and could no longer attend Sunday School. She will always remain in our hearts.
