Jeannette Baer Hilton was called home on September 26, 2022 where she was greeted by her savior, Lord Jesus Christ.
“Well done thy good and faithful servant.”
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. In Jeannette’s own words “I can say how true that is. He has led me all the way in my life. As I look back, there are so many times God was doing for me all He promised.”
“As long as I live, I shall testify of God’s Love.”
Jeannette was born January 4, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a graduate of Granby High School and Old Dominion University. Jeannette taught elementary school at Norfolk Christian school for 21 years starting at the Norfolk campus and then at the Virginia Beach campus. She left Norfolk Christian to teach 2nd grade at Windsor Woods elementary school until 2003, when she retired to spend time with her 7 grandchildren, whom she called her “7 Joys”.
“Granny” loved spending her summers taking her grandchildren on vacations in her big blue conversion van, going to Busch Gardens, Ocean Breeze, the oceanfront, and Alanton pool. Jeannette also loved her many years directing the children’s choir at Virginia Beach Community Chapel. The Christmas programs were always the highlight. Jeannette loved life, and lived it to the fullest. She was never one to miss a party, get togethers with family and friends, or a night out to dinner.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, David Allan Hilton. Her parents, James Shellman Baer III and Beverly Baer; her brother James Shellman Baer IV; infant son, James David Hilton; and grandson David James (DJ) Hilton.
Jeannette is survived by her sister Beverly Anne Baer, her daughters Susan Shell Hellstrom (Scott), Julia Ann Hilton (Chuck), her son David Ellis Hilton (Amy), 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and 2 nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brant Thomas and his staff at Lifeway Family Physicians for taking such great care of Jeannette.
Mom’s homecoming will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on November 13, 2022 at Virginia Beach Community Chapel 1261 Laskin Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
