Jimmie Furlough, born on May 29, 1946, in Washington, NC, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. A proud veteran, Jimmie served in the United States Army, spending several years stationed overseas in Germany. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to Virginia International Terminals, contributing significantly to the operations there.

Jimmie was married to Martha Jean Furlough, with whom he shared a loving partnership and family life. He is survived by his son, Jimmie Furlough II “Jamie”, who carries forward his father’s legacy of generosity and kindness. Jimmie is also survived by his sisters, Mary Jo Brewer and Patti Ann Padgett, who remember him for his humor and giving spirit.

Known for his warm heart and generous nature, Jimmie’s life was marked by his commitment to family, friends, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May he rest easy in heaven.

Condolences to the Furlough family. Jimmie was a great man. He will be missed greatly. I will miss our Army Navy banter.

So sorry for your loss. I had a dear childhood friend who lived next door to me on Mark Street in Chesapeake. The picture in the paper resembles him. We were both born in 1946 and attended the Chesapeake School System. If this is the same Jimmie, I would love to talk to his wife. My sincere condolences to his family. I too had the privilege to work along side with Jimmie when I was a younger man full of questions, and not always good ones. I learned a ton working with him in the several years we spent together at the terminals. Jimmie would always help those in need that wanted his assistance. May he rest in peace!

Jimmie will be deeply missed. He was full of energy and passion for the things that interested him. I had the privilege of working alongside him at the port for many years, and he was not only a great colleague but also a generous mentor, always willing to share his knowledge about work and life. As I look back on our time together, I can’t help but smile at the humor he brought to every moment. A damn good guy who will be sorely missed.
