Continue ReadingJoan Ellen Hughes, 72, passed away on Monday, March 02, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. Joan, known to all as Jo, was born to Thomas and Bert Beckner on June 4, 1942. She was a lifelong resident of the Hampton Roads area, having lived the majority of her life in Suffolk.
Jo was a woman with many interests including gardening, dog training, and traveling. She was a true animal lover and spent time raising Arabian horses. She and her husband Jeff Hughes especially loved traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains, a place they visited many times to enjoy the Lord’s beauty.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son John Glen McKimmey. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Jeff Hughes; her sister Patsy Harper and nephew’s Ricky and Ray; her sons Robert Michael McKimmey and wife Cindy; William “Billy” Earl Vick and fiancée Karen, Donald Ray Vick and wife Debbie; her grandchildren Madison Vick and Christopher Vick; great-grandson Shane Vick. A memorial service will be held in Jo’s honor on 16 March 2015, 7 PM at Riverside Altmeyer Funeral Home Chapel, 7415 River Road, Newport News, VA. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation and Heartland Hospice for all of their care and support.
