Joan Eure, 82, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024.
Joan was born on April 21, 1942, to Frank Madison and Mary Frances Bell in Portsmouth, Virginia. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and then attended Tidewater Community College to study bookkeeping and accounting. Thereafter, Joan enjoyed working at The Clothes Horse as a bookkeeper before moving on to a bookkeeper position at Portsmouth Concrete and C. Raeford Eure Surveyors, PC.
In her earlier years, Joan and her husband, Frank Schuler, moved to Gates County, NC, where she discovered her love of horses; she loved to spend time riding and caring for Peppy and Princess. Joan was also an avid painter, and enjoyed turning a blank canvas into something beautiful.
In her time at Victoria Place, Joan loved spending time with her friends playing board games, scrabble, and bingo. Her final years found her surrounded by new and old friends, her children, and their friends, who welcomed Joan into their homes as often as she was able.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sister, Sandra Bell Smith and her nephew, Michael Allen Smith.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lisa C. Eure and Curtis Raeford Eure, Jr. both of Virginia Beach; her grandson, Parker Eure of Valley Grove, WV; and her niece, Troy Lynn Rapoport (Steve) of Suffolk, VA.
There will be a graveside service on April 21, 2024, at 1pm at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Humane Society here.
