Joan Fox, 86, passed away October 7, 2023, at her home in Hampton, Virginia after a protracted illness. Per her wishes, there will be no service.
Joan is survived by her children George, Sandra and Stephen; their spouses Alicia, Jeff and Karen; and grandchildren; Josh, Halie, Brandon and Joel. She is further survived by her siblings Jane, David and Dan.
Joan was born in the suburbs of Detroit, MI, on July 22, 1937. One of nine children, she married AF pilot George Fox in 1958 and travelled the world. The military life took her to Okinawa, Florida, Japan and eventually to Hampton in 1974.
Aside from being a wonderful mother to her family, Joan loved to cook many international foods (Japanese, Korean and Italian, to name a few). She was an avid gardener, always adding a new plant to her collection. Joan was known for her steady flow of Maltese fur-babies, many that she rescued.
Ever the artist, Joan and her friend Ramone taught ceramics and doll-making classes for years at Fort Monroe. The family would always look forward to a piece of artistry that she would create for us at Christmastime.
Her family will miss her feisty wit, wonderful sense of humor, devotion to family and loving nature. She has taken pieces of our hearts with her and will forever remain in our hearts. Goodbye, BM!
