Born October 10, 1945 in Raleigh, NC to the late B.L. and Julia Aiken, she married Richard Farmer on August 7, 1966. She retired in 2004 after 21 years of dedication to Georgetown Primary and the Chesapeake Public School system.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Farmer of Chesapeake, VA, her three children, Michael Farmer wife Barbara of Chesterfield, VA, Denise Rohrbaugh husband Brent of Chesapeake, VA, and Christen Williams husband Donald of Newark, DE, and six grandchildren; Matthew, Rebecca, Vanessa, Julia, Faith, and Grace.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Paul’s UMC 437 Providence Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23325 on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 1:00pm with a small reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to St. Paul’s UMC in her memory.

I worked with "Mrs. Pharmor" at GTP for many years. She was always a smiling face in the classrooms and in the front office. FB allowed us to catch up back in 2010 and we had talked briefly online less than 6 months ago. I remember her making costumes for our PTA program and loaning me a Mary Higgins Clark book after the birth of my second child. Sweet lady who made the days of others a little lighter. My prayers are with her family during this most difficult time.

I was in school nursing in Wilson with Joanna in the 60's, and we were roommates. We had a blast-double-dating with our future husbands, our weddings, and our first-born babies. I remember getting together often on the weekends, and playing cards or dancing, just having such fun. Frequently Wilton and Cheribeth were there, too. We were all friends, and Joanna and I kept up with each other for a long time. She had a great sense of humor, and we had a hilarious time rooming together in nursing school-oh, we laughed a lot.
