Joanna Carol Lauridsen of Virginia Beach, 74. Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Beatrice Bedalis. Survived by her beloved and dedicated husband Peter of 53 years, her children Mary Robert Boothe, Timothy Darlene, and Kathryn. Also left to cherish her memory Grandma JoJo are her grandsons; Zachary, Reid, Jacob, and Jace, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Joanna was the happy wife of a U.S. Coast Guard officer which brought her to many duty stations over a twenty-nine year career. She was the glue that bound the family during these transitions, with her ability to bring love and friendship wherever her husband’s service took her. Joanna dabbled in several careers and hobbies, primarily utilizing her love of knitting and gardening, but her passion was in making the family house truly a home.
For many years, Joanna was challenged by rheumatoid arthritis, and she personally called herself “a tough old broad” in response to inquiries as to how well she was dealing with the disease. The family wishes to thank Joanna’s many doctors and caregivers, especially Dr. Gregory Myer, for their dedication in helping Joanna through the tough times. Also, a special thank you goes to the members of the Passenger Vessel Association PVA who knew Joanna, and spent so many happy times enjoying life with her. Joanna was a deeply spiritual person who volunteered many hours at St. Michael Lutheran Church, and enjoyed the special bonds that she made with Pastor and the other members.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2208 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456 on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013, at 11 a.m. Those wishing to donate memorials in Joanna’s memory are welcome to do so in her name to St. Michael or in another charity of their choice.
