Jody Thomas Owen, 58, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2024, embraced by his mother and surrounded by family. Jody was born on March 17, 1966, in Newport News to Ruby Louise and George Truman Owen and continued to reside in Newport News for most of his life.

Jody had a talent for carpentry, automotive, and auto body repair. When it came to a home or car, Jody could fix anything. Although he had a quiet personality, he always enjoyed telling funny stories from the past, especially when they were at someone else’s expense. He loved all animals, especially strays, which always had a way of finding him. But most of all, he loved his large family. Jody opened his heart to everyone, treated everyone like a friend, and never held a grudge. We will miss his laughter, his smile, and his gentle heart.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Ruby Owen; his children, Thomas, Justin, and Amanda Owen; his grandson, Brian; his brothers, George Owen (Sandy), Mark Owen (Sharon), and Dean Owen (Brenda); his sisters, Barbara Brown, Ramona Spencer, Laura Moosavizadeh (Shahriar), Shirley Hammond (Manny), and Alice Owen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Jody was preceded in death by his father, George T. Owen; his nieces, Kristie and Marcie; his nephew, Jonathan; his brothers-in-law, Mike, Dale, and Wayne; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Our family would like to thank the Heartland Hospice nurses who cared for Jody and supported our mother and family. He is now home and at peace.

A memorial service will be held on November 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at Faith Church of God 1115 Todds Lane Hampton, VA 23666. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his daughter Amanda Owen’s GoFundMe for her battle against breast cancer. http://gofund.me/7f53756d
