John Baker Jordan, born on October 4, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia, passed away suddenly on May 2, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 82.A devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He spent his professional life as a self-employed contractor, where he was known for his dedication and craftsmanship.
John is survived by his cherished wife of 54 years, Madeleine Tenney Jordan. He leaves behind two loving daughters, Jeanine Jordan Montgomery and her husband Gaylon, and Suzanne Gray. John was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, who will dearly miss his stories and laughter.
His lifelong friends Larkin Barnett, David Aument and Butch Forehand continue to tell the stories of fun and shenanigans growing up together in Ocean View.
John was no stranger to overcoming life’s obstacles. His perseverance and endurance gave him character, a competitive spirit and hope. John found his serenity on the water.
John enjoyed cruising the Chesapeake Bay on many sailing vessels over his lifetime. Ultimately, he and Madeleine enjoyed racing and cruising a 30’ Catalina named “Beautania.”
Whether in a regatta or just cruising, John was always navigating to round the mark in the lead. He was also an avid golfer, and he found great joy in listening to music from all genres, which brought harmony to his life and those around him.
John will be remembered for his passion for life, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
A celebration to honor John’s life will be held at Rebel Marina, 1553 Bayville St., Norfolk, VA 23503, May 31, 2025 at 4 pm. We will share great stories of our adventures with John on land and sea. Listen to the music his music and toast a great helmsman of life.
