On June 10, 2023, John Cabell Horsley (Jack) finished his two year battle with extensive complications from a spinal cord injury.
Jack was born on December 13, 1951 in Charlottesville, VA. He graduated from Christopher Newport College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, from Virginia Tech in 2001 with a Master of Science Degree in Horticulture, and became an Associate Certified Entomologist in 2011 by the Entomological Society of America. Jack worked for Edwards Pest Control from the early 1970’s until 2000 and for MSC Terminix from 2000 to 2020. He was an active member of the Virginia Pest Management Association, Tidewater Pest Control Association, and the Entomological Society of America.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife of 13 years, Martha; daughter, Emily Horsley Hochman (Jonathan); son, Alex Horsley (Andrea); grandsons, Bryce Hochman and Benjamin Horsley; granddaughter, Brynley Hochman; brother, Ray Horsley (Melissa); and sisters, Diana Griffin (Robert), Laura Reid (Nolan), Kathy Horsley Allen (Daniel), and Cristy Horsley. He is preceded in death by his father, John Cabell Horsley, Sr.; mother, Ruth Ownby Simmons; and stepson, Matthew Gordon Folts.
Jack’s family would like to thank the nurses and medical professionals who cared for him over the last two years, especially those at Riverside Hospice. A celebration of Jack’s amazing life is being planned for mid-August 2023.
