John Druzbick passed away on December 11, 2024 at the age of 93.
John was pre-deceased by his wife of thirty-three years, Sally Pleasants Druzbick, and his wife, Sara Smith Druzbick, whom he married in 1999.
John loved basketball, and after playing for the US Marine Corps, he played for Roanoke College, where he received a BS in Physics. To say he loved his years at Roanoke College would be an understatement. John briefly worked on Wall Street before returning to Roanoke, where he met his match, Sally Irene Pleasants. John and Sally settled in Fredericksburg, VA, where they raised their two daughters. After obtaining a PhD from American University in Washington, DC and retiring from his position as a scientific advisor to the US Marine Corps, he became a visiting university professor, pursuing his lifelong love of teaching. After losing Sally to cancer in 1995, John was introduced to Sara. John and Sara danced into their golden years. He also loved to sing and was a member of his retirement community’s chorus. John was particularly fond of the musical The Student Prince. And finally, John asked people to refer to him as “Handsome John”, so everybody, please give one last toast to Handsome John and “Drink, Drink! Let the toast start! May young hearts never part…”!
John is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Druzbick (Eric) of Sylva, NC and Carol Lynn Druzbick (Steve) of Vienna, VA, as well as four bonus children, Paul R. Smith (Jo Ann) of Salt Lake City, UT, Carol C. Smith, III (Kim) of Yorktown, VA, Arthur M. Smith of Stafford, VA, and Laura S. Huisman of Midlothian, VA. John was blessed with many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren on both sides.
The family will provide information regarding a celebration of life at a later date.
