John Edward Humphreys Sr.

Virginia Beach – John Edward Humphreys Sr. passed away on May 11, 2017 with his wife and family at his side. John was born on July 22, 1939, in Sutton, WV to Levi Huffman Humphreys and Mary Bickham Humphreys. He was the youngest of 10 children and was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, James, and Levi; and sisters, Mary Lee, Edith, and Virginia. John received a bachelor’s degree from King College and was an insurance industry expert for 43 years prior to his retirement in 2000. He was active member of Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach, and enjoyed learning and practicing Christianity.

John leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Maureen; children John Edward Humphreys Jr., Daniel Humphreys, Angela Stokes, and Colin Humphreys; his grandchildren Matthew, Guy, John, Kayla, Trina, Brendan, Brent, Bryce, Kaitlyn, Steven, Katheryn, Lauren, Jonathan, Jared, Dylan, Bridger, and Alyssa; one great-grandchild, Aleyla Grace; sisters Marjorie and Dorothy; and brother, Lon.

John’s life is a testament to his integrity, work ethic, and most of all, his love for family. Those that knew him may rest knowing he has found eternal peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A slide presentation with photographs from John’s life will begin at 6:30 PM Friday, May 19, 2017, with a funeral mass following at Church of the Ascension, 4853 Princess Anne Rd. in Virginia Beach. There will be a reception following the service. The family requests that bright colors be worn for this celebration of John’s life.
