John George Zajch, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 80. Born on August 27, 1945, in Pittsburgh, PA, John lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and a genuine love for those around him.

John spent much of his career as a dedicated Manager in the retail industry, where he was known for his leadership and personable nature. After retiring, he found joy in working with Lyft, where he delighted in meeting new people and sharing stories, adding a personal touch to every ride.

Outside of work, John had a passion for planting and gardening, nurturing life with the same care and attention he gave to his relationships. A true Steelers fan, he enjoyed cheering on his team with fervor, embodying the spirit of Pittsburgh.

Preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Esther Zajch, John leaves behind a family who cherished him deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Carole Zajch; his son, John D. Zajch; his daughter, Jennifer Hughes, and her husband, Mike; his niece, Lorie O’Toole, her husband, Ray, and their daughter, Sophie O’Toole. John’s presence will also be missed by his two loyal dogs, Brady and Benny, who brought him great joy.

John’s legacy of friendliness and warmth touched many lives. Billy and I were so sad to hear about your loss. I have so many fond memories growing up in your house. I remember working at Ames after hours helping him with inventory. I practically lived at your house. He always was like a dad to us. I remember being invited to Myrtle Beach with you all one summer and my parents didn’t let me go. Then, years later, Billy and I moved down there with our kids and had never been here before. I just knew you all talked about how much you loved it there. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers. Again, so so sorry.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for your loss. Butch will always be remembered as the kind and loving person he was. Prayers and love to you all🤗❤️

Life will never be the same without John Zach. I met him at my wedding and he became Uncle Butch over 20 years ago and my life is better for it. He was a very special man who was so friendly and always had a great story to tell. I am blessed to have been part of his family. My deepest condolences for Carol and Jennifer. He was a legend who will be missed.

I have wonderful memories of Mr. John Zajch. His daughter, Jennifer, is still my best friend. I have known the family since 1977, Jen and I met when we were in second grade. Her dad was a wonderful and caring person. He was kind and always interested in getting to know everyone, especially my crazy stories. I have a couple of great memories from Willingboro. First, Jennifer and I wanted a 45 at the record store. I think we were in fourth grade. I was upset that I didn’t have any money with me and John surprised me and bought me one also! He got me my first AC/DC - Back in black on 45. It meant the world to me. My parents also loved Mr. Zajch. I remember my dad taking me to Wolco, whereJohn managed the store. I remember a big shopping trip that we did with Mr. Zajch and it was so much fun. He was always full of smiles. He was just wonderful to be around And I’m so thankful that I spent so much time in my past with the family.I would visit every few years and he would take us places. Years later, I was really happy when we reconnected On Facebook.
