John J. Kehoe Jr. – Virginia Beach, VA
Captain John Joseph Kehoe, Jr., retired USN, 82, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011.
He resided in Conshohocken, PA before enlisting in the Navy, traveling, and moving to Virginia Beach, VA where he lived for 40 years.
Known as “Jack” to many, he served his country by enlisting at the age of 17 and rising to Captain in the U.S. Naval Medical Corp – a “Mustang”. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950 and retired from the USN after over 43 years of service and numerous medals and commendations. During his retirement, he enjoyed time with his wife – Joan, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jack also enjoyed woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Joan McNamara Kehoe; his parents, John Joseph Kehoe and Kathleen Morris Kehoe, and sister Kay Virginia Kehoe.
Survivors include his six children and their families — daughter, Joan Kehoe of San Mateo, CA; son, John Kehoe, III and wife Katherine of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Margaret Kehoe of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Robert Kehoe and wife Bonnie of Summerville, SC; daughter, Jacqueline Jennette and husband Stephen of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Tracy Harris and husband Brian of Virginia Beach, VA; 9 grandchildren, BJ & Mark Davis, Grace & Sarah Kehoe, Anna Kehoe Holmes, Chris, Jessica, & Jacqueline Jennette, and Rachael Harris; 4 great-grandchildren, Lydia & Logan Holmes, Laurel Davis, and Sadie Davis; brother, Robert J. Kehoe and wife Christel of Fairfield, CT; and sister, Margaret Kehoe Kovner of Rosemont, PA.
The family will receive friends at 3 PM on Friday, July 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church for a service, officiated by Father Gaudencio Pugat. Jack’s ashes will be mixed with those of his wife, Joan, and remain in the columbarium at Holy Family Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
