John Louis Ravizza, 83, passed away on September 20, 2017 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Pittsfield, MA to his father, Domenico Ravizza and mother, Luigia Miravalle Ravizza, the fifth of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Antonio Ravizza, Delphino Ravizza, and Joanna Wagstaff.
John was raised in Massachusetts, graduating from Pittsfield High School. He served in the U.S. Army prior to becoming a meat cutter. After marrying the love of his life, Joan Longton, they remained sweethearts until his passing 62 years later. He had four daughters and eventually moved his family to Virginia Beach later working in construction and then retiring from the Virginia Beach Public School System.
Johnny loved the Boston Red Sox, the Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame football, and woodworking. He was a do-it-yourselfer, always there to help and provide his expertise when needed. Greatest of all, he loved his wife and family, his most precious gifts.
He leaves behind those that love him very much including siblings Domenica Gibbs, Dino Ravizza and Richard Ravizza. His four daughters: Kim Larson (Russ), Christine Ravizza (Billy), Karen Cole (Tim) and Colette Booher (Mark). He leaves a legacy as “Poppy” to seven grandchildren: Tim Cole, Jr. (Jeannie), Billy Ravizza (Angelica), Nicholas Cole (Jenna), Shane Ravizza (Nadia), Rachael Larson, Sarah Larson and Thomas Larson. Six great grandchildren (Zadie, Mason, Wyland, Lucas, Hayes and Brayden) as well as many family members including nieces and nephews and grand dogs. He also leaves behind the countless children and their families that passed through his life and made him smile. He will be missed greatly by all.
If so moved, a memorial contribution may be made in John’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or perform a helpful deed for someone in need.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. A service will be held and announced at a later date. Online condolences or memories may be shared with the family online at www.legacy.com.
